About Me
Hi, I’m Elizabeth Musser — owner and baker behind Bluebird Cakery LLC.
Baking has been part of my life since I was a teenager, though the journey to opening my own cakery has been anything but ordinary. I tend to live life in 10–12 year chapters. After college, I began my career as a psychological tester before making a complete shift into air traffic control — where I spent the next decade guiding planes safely through the skies.
When my daughter turned four, I chose to begin my most meaningful chapter yet: homeschooling her. That beautiful season lasted 12 years and shaped my heart in ways I’ll always treasure. Once she left for college, I found myself drawn to wildlife rehabilitation, learning to care for opossums, squirrels, wild bunnies, and mice. Opossums especially captured my heart, and I devoted the next 10 years to rehabilitating and caring for them.
When state law changes made wildlife rehab more difficult, I found myself at another turning point. I decided it was finally time to build something of my own. And truly, it only made sense to start a bakery — because baking had quietly been woven through every chapter of my life all along. My sister and I had been creating over-the-top, imaginative cakes for more than 20 years, and it was time to turn that lifelong passion into something official.
I love the precision and science of baking just as much as I love the freedom of dreaming up beautiful designs and delicious flavor combinations. (I am a Gemini, after all!)
But Bluebird Cakery is about more than dessert. It’s about celebrating life’s sweetest moments — birthdays, holidays, milestones, and even the “just because” days. There is something incredibly special about creating a dessert that becomes part of someone’s memory.
Thank you for supporting my dream and my small business. I can’t wait to bake something beautiful for you.
My Baking Story
I have always loved baking.
My mother taught me the basics — though it never felt like formal lessons. It was more about standing beside her, watching carefully, and slowly taking over little by little under her gentle guidance. Sometimes we got it just right. Other times… we ended up with 200 chocolate peanut butter balls and only three people in the house who even liked peanut butter!
But it was always fun. And when I look back on those days in the kitchen, I remember them with so much love and happiness.
About 25 years ago, my sister began teaching me the crazy, complicated, over-the-top side of baking. I followed her lead completely because I truly had no idea what I was doing. Somewhere along the way, I caught on — and before long, we were creating cakes for family and friends.
We laughed. We experimented. We boldly attempted techniques we probably had no business trying. And somehow, it worked.
At one point, we even talked about opening a bakery called Sugar Mamas. My daughter made us a Facebook page just for fun… but let’s just say we quickly realized the name was attracting the wrong kind of attention!
Still, we kept baking. For years, we created elaborate cakes together — wildlife designs, themed creations, and celebration cakes of every kind — until eventually, Bluebird Cakery LLC was born.
In January 2024, I officially turned this lifelong passion into Bluebird Cakery LLC, a cottage bakery based in my home in Orange Park, Florida. My sister now serves as my trusted consultant and still jumps in whenever I need her.
Every cake and cookie that leaves my kitchen is handcrafted with care, creativity, and a whole lot of heart — just the way my mother and sister taught me.
